The Harenna Forest, one of the largest in Ethiopia, is located in the mountains of the magnificent Bale National Park, 350 kilometres south of the capital Addis Ababa. At an altitude of around 1800 metres, Arabica coffee trees grow freely in the shade of tall trees. For thousands of years, every family has been going into the forest to pick the ripe coffee fruit, dry it in the sun on hanging beds, roast it, purify it and offer it to their guests in a solemn ritual following ancestral ceremonies. It is a symbol of deep respect and hospitality.
